The Xiaomi 12 is the newest super-powerful Xiaomi phone, with impressive specifications and features.

Launched during a Chinese event in late December and exhibited with a Pro sibling, this will undoubtedly be one of the most excellent phones of 2022, competing against competitors such as the Samsung Galaxy S22, OnePlus 10, and iPhone 14.

This phone will be released in February or March, after the Mi 11 (Xiaomi discontinued the ‘Mi’ designation in mid-2021), and will most likely follow the Mi 11’s release schedule.

We know a lot about the xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro thanks to their launch event – check out all you need to know about each device below.

Xiaomi 12 release date

This 12 series made its debut in China on December 28, but a worldwide release is unlikely to happen before February or March. That is, according to certain high-level leakers.

Xiaomi’s 12 Lite and Ultra models

Before we get into the two officially announced Xiaomi 12 phones, let’s take a quick look at two more that have been leaking.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite, for example, is expected to be released shortly, according to speculations.

According to early rumors, this phone will include a Snapdragon 700-series CPU, a 6.55-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen, and three back cameras.

We’ve also heard about the Ultra, mainly regarding its appearance, since leaked case information suggests it will have an absurdly big camera hump, maybe with a capacity for up to 7 back lenses.

Some reports believe there will be no Ultra, with the gadget mentioned above being a Pro version of the Mi Mix 5 – we’ll have to wait and see.

Design and display

The Xiaomi 12 is a small device with a 6.28-inch display, while its Pro brother increases it to 6.73 inches.

This phone features an OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a maximum brightness of 1100 nits, while the Xiaomi 12 Pro has an AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a full brightness of 1500 nits. Both devices support Dolby Vision and HDR10+.

Except for the size difference, both phones seem to be the same. The panels curve at the edges and are separated by a ‘punch-hole’ in the center-top, which houses the selfie camera.

The cameras are placed in rectangular bumps on the back, with one large and two smaller lenses – regrettably, the tiered design of the Xiaomi Mi 11 has been abandoned. The gadgets are available in black, gray, blue, and pink.

Camera and battery

The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro share a 50MP f/1.9 primary camera and a 32MP selfie camera, but that’s where the similarities stop.

This phone features the same 5MP telemacro camera as the Mi 11 for close-up shots and a 13MP f/2.4 ultra-wide camera.

On the other hand, the Pro receives a 50MP f/1.9 telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and a 50MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera.

The Xiaomi 12 features a total of 100MP spread across its four cameras, while the Pro has a capacity of 182MP.

There are more minor changes in battery capacity, with the Xiaomi 12 getting a 4,500mAh battery and the Pro getting one that is only 100mAh larger.

While both phones include 50W wireless and 10W reverse wireless charging, the Xiaomi 12 Pro outperforms the Xiaomi 12 with its super-fast 120W wired charging – a feature we saw on the Xiaomi 11T Pro, allowing for exceptionally rapid recharges. It’s far faster than the Xiaomi 12’s 67W.

Specifications and features

As previously stated, the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro both use Qualcomm’s newest super-powerful CPU, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, combined with either 8GB or 12GB RAM.

What is the speed of this processor? Well, it’s speedier than the previous Snapdragon 888, albeit we haven’t tried it on the phone yet.

These Xiaomi phones are the newest speakers tuned by Harman Kardon, a significant brand in the audio field, so music played loudly should sound fantastic.

The operating system is Android 12, with Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 on top – this is the most recent version of MIUI, and its features include security and user interface customization.

What additional Xiaomi 12 handsets might we expect?

The Xiaomi 12X was released with the two phones we’ve discussed; it’s essentially the same as the 12, but with an older processor, and it’s also unlikely to be released outside of China.

Additional to the two announced phones, we’ve heard reports of many other Xiaomi 12 phones in the family, including two Lite editions and an Ultra model.

We just learned of a Xiaomi 12 Ultra Enhanced, an even more luxurious version of the top-end phone, albeit we don’t know what sets it apart from the other model. Later in 2022, we’ll most likely see a Xiaomi 12T series of mid-range phones that compete with the main-series phones.
